3. Ranch Night
‘Git outa here, men. We’re no match agin Durango’s fancy gunplay!’
Every Wednesday night, without fail, Horrie gathered up his children and marched the whole catastrophe down to Chapel Street and the Empress Theatre, where there was always a special cheap family ticket for Ranch Night. My mother never desired to partake; while Rosely attended spasmodically for her interest in Western movies entirely surrounded the presence in the main film of certain handsome actors—John Derek and Jeffrey Hunter were especially favoured; and little Howie had to get special dispensation on account to his junior age. But I always went—it was the highlight of my week.
